CHILD SAFETY MONTH 2005

NATIONAL CHILD SAFETY MONTH.

The objective of this month is to raise awareness of the extend of suffering cause by a hazardous environment that children face on a daily basis and to distribute meaningful information on prevention of childhood injuries.

The theme for the month is “Watch that Child”: Child Safety is no Accident.
Various sub themes will be focused on during the month such as:

  • Paraffin Safety & burns
  • Road safety
  • Home safety
  • School safety
  • Prevention of Abuse.

Various activities will be taking place during this month and one of the events that The Child Accident Prevention Foundation at Red Cross Children’s Hospital will be hosting is a Child Safety Seminar.

Guest speakers and topics are as follows:

  • Opening address by Minister Leonard Ramatlakane – Community Safety
  • Non Natural Deaths to children in South Africa and Western Cape (MRC)
  • Paraffin Safety and burn prevention (Paraffin Safety Association)
  • Road Injury prevention Initiatives in the Western Cape - Arrive Alive
  • Prevention of Abuse & Neglect – Prof Van As Red Cross Children’s Hospital
  • Child Safety Initiatives (Woolworth’s) - N Soman
