Childsafe Mission Statement

The Child Accident Prevention Foundation of Southern Africa (CAPFSA) will promote optimal health and development of all children in South Africa, via their Childsafe program. CAPFSA aims to reduce intentional and unintentional injuries of all severity through research (see Statistics), education, environmental change and recommendations for legislation. To achieve this we work in co-operation with government, industry, non-governmental and community based organization, community groups and individuals.

CAPFSA believes that every child has a right to grow and flourish in a safe environment without the threat of being hurt.

Thousands of children in South Africa under the age of 18 die of unnatural causes every year road accidents, drowning, burns, poisoning, falls, choking and suffocation. Hundreds of thousands are injured.

MOST ACCIDENTS CAN BE PREDICTED AND PREVENTED

Our aim

To prevent serious and fatal accidents to children under 18 years of age, through:

  • Research

Statistics, academic articles and safety journals.

  • Education

We lecture and give talks on various safety topics, e.g. road safety, drowning, burns and poisoning.
